Conservation through Education
Want a Fascinating Program Straight
from the WILD?
Discover the amazing world of birds with a Wind Over
Wings' environmental education program. All programs include birds
unable to be returned to their natural habitat. The programs are designed
to inspire respect for nature and to educate the audience about the
interdependent relationship between the birds, other aspects of the
natural world, and human beings. We have Golden and Bald Eagles, hawks,
owls, a magnificent Peregrine Falcon, and parrots. The following is
a list of programs. Substitutions are allowed if you have a favorite
bird. Programs are designed to be age-appropriate. There is no limit
to the number of people attending.
Birds of Prey
This program includes four raptors. Their stories will be told along
with the natural history of the species. A variation of this
program is Birds of Prey Including an Eagle! We have a beautiful
Blue & Gold Macaw, a colorful and gentle bird.
The Extraordinary Lives of Owls
Owls
are thought to have been on this earth 75 million years and yet many
adults have never seen a live owl! This is a chance to meet a Saw-whet Owl or two (New England's smallest owl), a Great Horned Owl (New England's largest); an Eastern Screech-Owl and perhaps a Great Grey Owl. We will talk about
owls' remarkable hearing, sight, and ability to fly silently, plus
special areas of interest such as how to spot an owl in the wild.
Also available are Owl Pellet Labs.

I Found a Baby Animal. What Do
I Do?
What do you do if a baby bird has fallen out of its nest? Some animals
need to be rescued but others do not. It is often children who find
wildlife. We'll talk about when to put a bunny back in its nest and
how to help a baby squirrel. Joining us in this program is an imprinted
bird (a bird raised by people instead of their bird family.) We also
bring a bird hit by a car. What do you do if you see an injured animal
on the road? Two other birds accompany us with special stories. This
program is most effective in the spring when children find baby animals.
Understanding Flight
Did you ever wonder how birds fly, or how airplanes get off the ground?
This is your chance to find out. Wind Over Wings will bring four birds
of prey to show you the magic of flight. We will bring a large owl
to show silent flight, a Peregrine Falcon, the fastest creature on
earth, a Red-tailed Hawk to show beautiful feathers, Great Horned
Owl for silent flight and a Red-shouldered Hawk. An eagle may be substituted
for one raptor.
Birds!
WOW has designed a special program for young children.
Three special birds are presented so children can become familiar
with the birds remarkable abilities. For pre-schoolers, a special
story is read about a bird. Birds accompanying us include three special owls. The program is interactive, humorous,
and gives the children a lot of opportunity to ask questions. Adults
are welcome too!
Eagles
Wind Over Wings presents two eagles. We have a new Bald
Eagle in training who will begin programs during 2009 plus two Golden
Eagles. The training of these birds is discussed as well as their
natural history. An eagle video is available, or you may choose one
eagle and three other raptors for comparison.
Soaring with Hope
This inspiring program is designed for cancer patients
and their families, clinicians and other caregivers. The name of the
program was given by the Middlesex Cancer Center where Hope Douglas,
founder of Wind Over Wings, was a breast cancer patient. She shares
remarkable stories of raptors and what we can all learn from them,
including the fact that they make time to play!
Fee: We are licensed by the State and USFW, but
not funded by either, so you are helping to keep these birds fed.
